The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir is a 2019 French English-language comedy-adventure film directed by Ken Scott and starring Dhanush. It is based on a novel by Romain Puertolas titled The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe. The film was shot in India, Brussels, Paris and Rome.The film released on May 30, 2018 in France. It is releasing in India, USA, Canada, UK, Singapore and Malaysia on 21 June 2019. This movie was also dubbed in Tamil language as Pakkri.
The film won two international awards: In 2018 it won in Norwegian International Film Festival the Ray of Sunshine Award and in 2019 in Barcelona Sant-Jordi International Film Festival, it won an award for best comedy. Based on the novel by Romain Puertolas, the film recounts an Indian street magician`s eventful journey to Paris in search of his father. Ajatashatru Lavash Patel has lived all his life in a small Mumbai neighborhood tricking people with street magic and fakir stunts. He sets out on a journey to find his estranged father, but instead gets dragged on a never-ending adventure.
After his mother’s death, a young fakir from the streets of Mumbai, AJATASHATRU or ‘AJA’ (“Dhanush”), leaves India for France to track down the father he never knew. From the moment he arrives in Paris, nothing goes as planned. Aja falls in love with a young American woman (“Erin Moriarty”) having an existential crisis, wakes up in a truck full of Somalian Refugees (“Barkhad Abdi”) headed for England, is held hostage in a bureaucratic war, sorts out the love life of a Movie Star (“Berenice Bejo”), gets shot at by a hitman in a Roman palace, travels by private jet, merchant ship and hot-air balloon, and becomes a rich.
